When I was a kid I always thought I would be the next MLK. I mean, we shared birthdays and I thought I was on my way there.
Turns out creating a new path towards change isn’t very easy. Maybe somewhere along the line that passion died out.
I see so many things online now and I wonder how MLK would’ve reacted to everything we see now. Would the power of social media help his cause? Or hurt him?
Nowadays it seems like everyone is an online lawyer and has an opinion they think we all want to hear.
I’m all for giving everyone the opportunity to speak, but I can’t help but get upset at the amount of ignorance that is shared.
The only thing that’s worse than that are the amount of people who know better, yet still choose to stay uneducated.
Maybe that’s why I haven’t wanted to bring a child into this world. It’s complicated. I always put a crazy amount of pressure into making sure the world is a better place before my kiddos take a breath in this planet.
I’m not exactly sure I’ve done that.
My ego tells me that I’ve done some good work, but I never feel like it’s enough. What do awards and charity work do if you’re not making a move to change the backstage of everything?
Every time I go out to volunteer there are a ton of people ready to film and take photographs of everything possible, but the amount of work is scarce.
I know it’s all a part of the game, but dammit I hate that game.
Maybe one day we could all just do our part to change what we can and feel anger for those things that happen to our brothers and sisters.
I’m sick of looking over the country as if it was a noun and ignoring the human beings that share our love for our place of residency. Granted, we may not love our government and there may be a ton of other things that we do not agree with, but there’s a reason we live where we all live, for the most part.
I just want everyone to have an even playing field and unfortunately us minorities are pushed against each other and we’ve failed to evolve on many frequent occasions. Lazines kills.
My dream is to begin to work with human beings that will change the world, starting with those already close to me.
Time to get to work.
