“ The man who complains about the way the ball bounces is likely to be the one who dropped it” -Lou Holtz
I read a post today that talked about how men thrive on responsibility. It also talked about how each man is responsible to find responsibility that he craves and build on it. So that got me thinking. Could it really be that easy? Do some men just take responsibility for granted? Or do some men find responsibility in something they’re not interested in? I found the thought interesting.
While I have to admit that I don’t always stick to something and follow through on everything I do, I make an effort be be working on something at all times. Having dreams is underrated. I think sometimes I limited myself by not having dreams and not thinking bigger. I remember seeing a video of Jim Carey talking about, “the only thing bigger than ourselves, is ourselves.” That just kind of wraps around the quote from that basketball movie that says something about it’s not that we’re inadequate but that we are brighter than beyond our wildest beliefs. Something cheesy like that. The point is that I think we shortchange ourselves at times. We settle for something that’s lesser and feel responsible to give our all to. That’s when we begin to crumble and fall apart and care less. Obviously this can relate to anything whether it’s work, relationships, or friendships. I think that’s what causes majority of burnouts during our day and age. I strongly believe that burnouts don’t have to be all about work. Burnouts can be just as simple in friendships and relationships. Sometimes we put work into something that just feels like a job and we start to see no benefit. Once you start to realize that it’s very hard to go back to it and give it your 100%. Ultimately, I think it’s important to figure out whether you have created a routine, or seriously built a responsibility you never had to feel guilty over. I think once you figure that out it’s a lot easier to start over. The most important thing to do is to keep having faith that things will work out the way that you need them to work out. Maybe not the way you want them to work out, but definitely the way you need it to work out. Ultimately you’re the author of your book and nobody is going to write the next chapter for you. I think that’s the real beauty of it all though, you don’t have to really wait to see how it plays out you could just go out and make things happen. At the end of the day, you’re the only one you should hold accountable for your decisions. So, my advice to you is to choose wisely when you think about your responsibilities and only keep those that keep you thriving and improving.
